I just use newspaper for cage liners and trim the nails occassionally.

Rod never use sandpaper or grit sheets in the bottom of the cage they will cause sores on your birds feet. Are you using natural branches in his cage that will help and you can buy calicum perches from the pet store just rembemer to buy a pale colour because the dye sometimes comes out of them. Baby birds all have sharp claws and they do wear down. Do you let him walk around on the paves out side (make sure his wings are clipped) I do clip my birds claws and I know vets and some pet shops will do it also.

Good that you ditched the paper Rob the natural branches are the right way to go , don't worry too much about him not using the calcium perch yet he will eventually. John

John beat me to it...............he will use the calcium perch. As Pauline (Petiel) said, just be careful with the colour you choose. Being as he is a galah, you could use pink. When I was given Shrekie (female alexandrine) she looked like a very big princess parrot because she had a pink calcium perch in her cage and it had coloured her chest area very pink. I immediately took it out and got her a green one. LOL I have had her a few months now (not sure how long possibly 3 I think) and she is almost all green again now.

I saw a whiteface cockatiel once with a bright red face. The calicum perch was dark red. Rob place the calicum perch high in his cage. At night they love to sit on the highest branch.

Natural branches are great for their feet but also they have great fun pulling the leaves and bark off. I can't grow trees fast enough in my yard to keep up to my birds demand. Lucky my parents have land and keep me in reasonable branch supply.

Well, some bad news about Banjo, and I am not happy one bit. Today I noticed Banjo do a poo, and as I looked at it, I noticed it wasent falling from him bum, and was long and wriggling, Yes, It was a worm. I got it off him and then he done another. So off to the vet I go trying not to stop at the petshop I bought him from and asking the owner in front of all his customers if all the birds he sells are rittled with worms. But not being an ass, I thought about it and perhaps he dident have worms there at the petshop, maybe he got them here, But I don't know. Eigher way Im not happy and I hope this worm treatment gets rid of them for the poor little bugger. any advice on what I should do regarding the worming treatment? And should I give Tonys Pet shop a peice of my mind also??

Rob that is no good about Banjo having worms. He would of had them for a while and if it was me I would contact the Petshop and make them aware . That bird should I been wormed at the shop before it was sold to you. Did the vet give you wormer to put in his water?

Wow he obviously did not get the worms from your place............they need to be in contact with other birds or the ground to get the worms. I worm my birds and I have to say I have never seen worms in them. My birds have wild birds visit them and when Bo was alive she would strutt around the yard for hours, so I had to worm them regularly.
Glad you took him to the vet............they will give you the best treatment for him.

Rob make sure you follow the wormer instructions very carefully as some of it can be pretty potent stuff, in fact I always err on the light side with my birds and make the dosage a little weaker than manufacturers instructions.
Should you contact the pet shop that you purchased him from? most assuredly , they should be made aware that a bird that was purchased from them has worms, you may even find they will be grateful for the information, although I doubt it.
Keep an eye on Banjo as far as his weight is concerned as worms make the birds lose weight rather dramatically.
When you dose his water leave it with him for a couple of days to ensure he is drinking it then change the water and dose it up again.
