Hi
Guys, what would you consider an 'adequate' cage size for a pet cockatoo species? I guess it is just a place for him to go when he's not out and about but I hate the look of small cages.
Cheers

Boxa, The main question is is the bird hand raised or avairy? If the bird is handraised I'd say nothing under 2m high x 1m long. Avairy I'd go nothing under 4m x 4m but that is my personal preference. The bigger the cage the more toys for a hand raised bird, but I know quite a few people that keep hand raised birds in huge avairies!

As a general rule of thumb Boxa a cage should be twice the wing span of the bird in all directions ( width, depth and hight ) that gives them room to flap their wings with out hurting them self.

Thanks for the quick reply's guys. Yeah, I think the cage I have may be a little small. I bought it for a parrot but my fiance all of a sudden loves Galah's which I also don't mind so I was thinking of changing my mind LOL, funny how the women always get what they want ;D There is always the option of builing in the front verandah I suppose......... Thanks again, looks like I might have to stick with a parrot species for now. The cage I've got is 182x92x76 so I hope its not too small for a parrot even! Cheers -=boxa=-
