My 2 new additions Gus and Gillie ( formerly Gertie but we believe they are both male ) have been with us nearly 3 weeks. I now offer them a nut from my hand inside the cage and they will both take it and they have just started mouthing each of my fingers and hand. I will let them do this for a while and then perhaps try to scratch their head. They have settled really well indoors. Once they are covered at around 8.30pm, they don't make a peep until they hear we are up in the morning and the weiros are doing a couple of laps of the kitchen and family room. They wait for their dish of fresh fruit and veg and promptly throw it everywhere. Are we doing the right things and is there anything else we should be doing?

sounds ok to me too. I can remember Bo throwing her food every where too. She was a woman with a mind of her own and she knew exactly what she wanted to eat. lol

Hi Grego, progress is slow and they still back away at times. I will persevere and hope I can gain their trust. Gillie almost let me give him a scratch, he doesn't know what he's missing. We have settled into a routine now so fingers crossed

Agree with Tracey, your doing well and in time you will get that scratch,....just a thought, try scratching under the ear lobe they love it there and they can see your hand is not a threat also Good luck

Well slowly but surely we are making progress. They are not keen on human contact yet, but we now let them out of the cage every evening. They prefer to come out of the top of the cage and spend thier time playing with newspaper and toys on top of the cage and fly a circuit of the room and land on top of one of the cupboards. The 2 weiros are more relaxed with them now too, they will sit on top of the galah's cage when they are in it and the male weiro chases them when they fly around. I hope we don't have a mid air collision, the weiros are very fast and agile and move out of the way very quickly. Around 8.30pm the galahs know it's time to get in the cage and we have a routine which is working quite well thank goodness, as we can't handle them yet to put them back in. We are not sure if what we do is right but things are ok at the moment and I love to see them out of the cage enjoying some freedom.
