Just a quick update on Jacko .... as i have suchhhhhh a crazzy day ahead of me He has started to settle in much better this pass week ... i've had him out everyday ... and have worked out i can con him back to his cage eassssy with nice fresh seeds ... I just get his dish out .. clean it up .. fill it and he steps straight on the dish and i put him back in his cage ... It makes me feel so much better about things now that i can put him back without having to chase him for an hour ... I have a pic from yesterday (PIC HAS NOW BEEN REMOVED) A big thanks to Judy for taking the time to post some great suggestions and advice .... it has made me feel alot better about having Jacko be apart of our family

Depends where you buy them from .... a breeder you'll pay around $1500/$1800 from a pet shop (which really should be a no no) around $3000

The breeder I got Skye and Shrekie from told me he sells them the samuli ones for $1500, I think he said the magnificus are around the $2000. From what I saw there is not a great difference in size of them either. He had two handraised girls there about 12 months of age, who were in an aviary but still come up to him for some "loving" and one was a samuli and the other a magnificus and I could see the difference in size but it was not as great as I had imagined.

Coool ... We had our first vet visit yesterday .... It was to get his wings clipped but the vet decided that Jacko is a little under weight and wants me to try and get some weight put on him before he clips him .... Jacko weighed in at 506g .... the vet would like to see him up around the 700g .... soo we are back to the vet in a week or so

He is such a sweetie. Glad to hear he's settling in now. Just curious but why does he need more weight before he can be clipped?

I'm not 100% sure but i think cause he is so light even with clipped wings he'd still get away ... and my vet seems to like free flight birds i think ... plus thinks its good for the chest musles etc ... But i dont take any notice of what vets think of free flight birds ... they dont live with us ... and i think its best for my birds to be clipped

Awwww i wish we were closer ... i'd love to come and let our black `too's hang out together ... I just now have to set some time aside to do some setup training with jjacko .... I really wanna put together some kind of Bird/Parrot Education together .... i have just got a boarded eckie girl and the own is thinking of rehoming her .... it just breaks my heart to know people cant cope with these kinds of birds ... Anywayy i sure will keep you posted on Jacko ... and i may as well ask while i'm at it ... what kinda of wild nut/pine thingys can/will he eat and play with?? and do you get anything from the wild for Jetta???

nothing from the wild, I just buy from supermarkets, almonds and beernuts, unsalted type. Apparently pine cones are good for them to play with, but you have to bake them for a few minutes. Will find out how long.

ahhh ok .... there was something else ya could get some the wild ... but i cant remember what the name of them are .... they are on these long skinny pine leaf kinda trees ...
I'd guess ya would have to wash them or something as well ... just incase something was on them ...
I did see the tree when i was out earlier ... but they were on the side of a somewhat busy road ...

Ahhh that would be great if ya could .... Today he played up .... didnt / wouldnt go back to his cage ..... but i think i have it somewhat worked out now ... If i just limit his food of a morning ... and let him out of an afternoon .... by then he'll be a little bit hungry and he'll go for his food dish for food ... Boy today he got into everything ... on the stove .... onto the kitchen bench ... was throwing things onto the floor ... trying to get on Jims desk ... for me it was funny to watch Jim trying to control him

I couldnt find much on these trees but they are more a coastal beach tree by the look of it. The roots like to grow in sandy soils. Do you live near beaches lisa or along a coastline? What I would do is if you do, go for a drive one day or if you happen to spot any birds in these trees see whether or not they are eating the pines from them. Sorry not much help on that one.
Jackos playing around ha. When Jetta doesnt want to go in her cage, after cuddles I know she is not wanting to lol. I cradle her wings in my arms and put her in that way and this way she doesnt get or cant get away. Because she is fully flighted she spreads her wings alot, this way she cant move them. Will Jacko let Jimmy cradle him?
