One of my galahs has taken to leaning on the other one when they are on the perch close together. He also puts a foot up and climbs onto the other one who really is not keen on this behaviour. Does anyone know if this is a dominance thing or is there another reason?

mmmm without actually seeing it, I am "guessing" one might be trying his "luck" although it is not breeding season for galahs at the moment.
So it might be a dominance thing. I am sure Mike (avinet) will come on and give his much more expert advise ;D

From the description it sounds like an over-sexed male who has got his seasons mixed up and a hen who knows it's autumn and not spring and is telling him she's got a headache How old are the two birds and what are their sexes? cheers, Mike

I was given the galahs and have no history on them but after posting pics on here, it was suggested they are about 2 years old. My colleague who gave them to me was given them by a patient who's son didn't want them ( can't think why as they are beautiful) and she thought they may be male and female but again when I posted the pics everyone thought they could be 2 males. Both have dark eyes but I believe a female doesn't necessarily have to have red eyes. It would be lovely if I have got one of each so I will have to wait and see what transpires. Thanks for the replies

My understanding is that females do have orange ish coloured eyes. My galah was a girl and layed her first eggs at around 12 years of age.........her eyes were orange not dark brown or black.
I should say that if you want to be certain then you could have them dna'd so you know for sure ;D
