I prefer to attach my nestboxes to the outside of the cages for easy access. The ones we built were made of pine and screwed together. By using screws we found it easier to dismantle for cleaning and if any part needed replacing it was very easy. We also attached a sliding hatch in one wall to get easy access to the babies. The boxes screw on to the outside of the cage so can be easily unscrewed for cleaning out the shavings. Here are a few pics showing the box and the attachment method. We also drilled some air holes near the top of the box for ventilation. The lid screws off totally as well. Jo-Anne

Hey Jo-anne ... do you use any brackets or just the screws? I can't get my head around how it doesn't fall off or bend the wire?

The box is attached to a piece of angle bracket that is mounted very securely to the cage. In my first pic, if you look at the side of the box closest to the front that has the round entrance hole you will see a screw in the top and bottom that is poking out. If you then look at the 2nd pic you can see that those screws are screwed through the angle bracket and into the box. There are 2 screws on each side of the box and under the box there is another piece of angle bracket that helps hold it up...not that it is necessary as the screws do the job well but it makes it easier for holding it up while you insert the screws. The angle brackets are attached to the frame of the cage at the top and bottom so the wire is completely free of the box. Hope this explains it a bit better. I can add text to the pics for you if that will help. Jo-Anne
