I was in Big W a few weeks ago, and they had a bag of about fifty buttons of all different sizes, shapes and kinds for $5 or so.
Hey, I thought, Akira and Sora both think buttons are awesome. So, I bought it, went through to pick out any I thought they might break or swallow, and put it in a shallow cardboard box with a couple of keys, a bell and some big plastic beads.
And they *love* it. It's on top of my computer desk, which is one of the higher places in the room. Their little heads pop in and out of vision (which means we now play 'peekaboo!' as well) and they both throw buttons for me to throw back. You'd think it was bird heaven the way they run around in there.
I was very, very happily surprised. :D They've got a playpen, which I've tried attaching various toys to, but they ignore everything on it in favour of sitting on the ladder and talking to Joel (it's on the corner of his desk). The only time they'll do anything other than just sit there is if there's seed on the bottom.
In fact, at one point Akira dropped down onto the computer tower to play with a bracelet there, and Sora's head popped up to see what he was doing, then disappears. He then pops up a few seconds later, directly above Akira...and drops a button on his head. Akira wasn't very impressed, but I laughed so hard I could barely breathe. Such a mischievous budgie. >:3

Hahaha, I love you're birds, they're so adorable. XD I'll need to see if I can find some biiiiiiiiiig buttons for Jedi to play with, or maybe some wooden circles or something. Wonder if the budgies would like the button thing...hmm.

It's always worth checking out the baby and toddler toy section as there's blocks and all sorts for them to play with and they're often cheaper that bird toys.
Minna that would've been hilarious to see. Your guys are such characters.

Love the cheap and inexpensive toy idea...ahh if only it was that easy for cats and dogs.

Yeah, they are. The latest trick is to get really involved in whistling and peeping at each other, and scrabble around after each other in circles, sending the buttons everywhere, but as soon as my head appears....complete silence. They're so silly. :3 I'll do that I'd like to get them some more toys, but most of the things for sale are just variations on toys they already have -only so many hanging chew things with a bell fit in the room. >_<

Takoda loves buttons. I have to stop him from chewing them off my clothes and while in Bunnings the other day with Caillean doing a workshop I had Takoda on my shoulder (obviously I was on a day off LOL) and I had to give him a large button to chew on a play with while on my shoulder. LOL He just loved it.

LOL Phil. One is Shrekie the girl I bought for my eldest son (but he gave her back as she was too noisy and not the boy he had hoped for. I am looking for a husband for her). The other is Takoda who is my boy and not going to be a breeder for the moment anyway. LOL
