I asked to have this topic added because I recently lost a very special bird. Perhaps the most horrible part of losing a dear feathered friend was the reaction of non-pet or non-bird people. People didn't seem to understand or care why I was upset about my bird passing, the comment "but its just a bird" was a common response. Even from cat and dog people who understand the emotional attachment we have to our pets. Birds, especially parrots, show emotion towards us and communicate with us, and can become very dear friends or part of the family - just like a cat or dog. It no wonder we get so attached. So I asked for this thread for our special friends who have passed, because only another bird person can understand what is like to lose a FID. - Claire P.S To my dear friend Oscar. We miss your songs and whistles, your "he-ros" in the morning and at night, and the way you wave goodbye. Although you bit and screamed at us, we forgave you because of your charming nature we could never be angry at you. A real character, a bit of a grouch and a very handsome boy. Good night you cheeky bugger! Oscar 19.10.01 to 20.10.04

Sorry for your loss catbird..It's heart wrenching to lose a fid.. I lost a bird 12 months ago, he didn't die, he escaped on me, he didn't try and fly away from me but too me and someone opened the door at the same time and he missed my sholder..My boss allowed me time off work to try and find him, they were so good about it..day and night I called him. I still live in hope that he's ok..It still breaks my heart to look at his pics...Prayers are with you and little Oscar who's crossed over rainbow ridge...

RAINBOW BRIDGE.....From birds n way...I love this poem.
Just this side of heaven is a place called the Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to the Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor, those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly, he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together...
