She didn't run out of water as such. I should have had her put down she was old and her beak was starting to grow deformed. Her bottom half was about 1cm longer than the top which made it difficult for her to eat and drink. Her water dropped to a level (because it's really hot up here and evaporation happens, a lot!) where she wouldn't have been able to get enough. She was 4 and 1/2 years old too and had stopped laying for a year. In quail terms she was very old, she had lost movement and balance in her lower half as well. She lived in a large tub in my lounge room, so she was never neglected.... she was always there so I could hear her scratching around or chirping. And yes I know I should have checked her water and Her more often, after all it is summer. But it is hard to do when your at work or out of the house. You think I haven't beaten myself up enough already!

HI AcaciaWattle, Don'feel bad about your little Darlin she have the best life living in your lounge room, I don't think many people would have done that. If she lived outside in a aviary she would not have lived that long with her problem beak. You know you did your best to give her a loving home.

I removed that post Amanda and we are not judgmental here whilst most of us know the circumstances of your Shadow the person that made the post obviously didn't. We have all lost friends to difficult circumstances, both feathered and human, so lets not cast stones.

Thankyou John My Mum is really upset too, it was my parents who bought Darlin' for me and Mum was very attached too. I remember when she helped us move to Townsville. At each stop there would be my Mum, myself and Darlin' out having a drink!!! Everyone who ever met her absolutely fell in love with her. She was truely one of a kind. I am going to get a poster made of that picture to go in my loungeroom

I am a bit late, but my condolances are here anyway. I hope your healing is fast and do not blame yourself. I know how it feels to feel at fault somehow (it took me a while to accept Bo's death). <<<hugs>>> coming your way.
