 Today I said a very sad goodbye to my very pretty little black masked or harlequin dove hen. I bought her about 9mths ago from Better Birds after seeing and falling in love with a spare cock bird elsewhere and I refused to buy him until I had obtained a hen. My poor darling had a dodgy wing but it never once stopped her. She fell madly in love with her mate and they were constantly side by side. They built nests and laid but only ever hatched 1 baby that didn't make it out of the nest. This afternoon she was quietly sitting on floor of the aviary (her mate sitting on an egg in the nest) and as I approached her she stumbled..I gathered her up and bought her inside as she had no flight ability at all. I than when and caught her mate,placing their solitary egg in a zebbie nest. They spent the afternoon together side by side and early this evening she went gently sitting on my chest. Farewell dear sweet dove of mine...may your wings now be perfect and may you forever soar high.

Thanks everyone, She really did touch my heart with her spirit...hard to believe that 1 bird in so many (in the aviary) upset me so much....just goes to show that sometimes it is the quietest one that grabs your heart. They are my or were my only pair of masked doves.  I am hoping to move soon so she will be going with me where she will rest under a lovely Banksia Rose I have. Heavensark has really helped with some of the grief,so great board John. |

yes it is Seb isn't it (a great area to post and share and grieve). When Bo died it was very very moving and a great way to heal and to share it with other people of like minds. My other friends just wouldn't understand.
