I just went out to put a load of washing on the line and all my guy's were making a racket soon as they saw me. Went over and I found my favourite breeding hen Pearl (Shadows mum) dead. She was fine late last night as I was talking to her (was going to put the nest box in next week). The way I found her, she died of a broken neck. We have a lot of kite's and hawk's at the moment. I have put her under my favourite rose bush. Thank you for all of your beautiful babies, Rest In Peace my beauty. Mum is in the background.

Thank you everyone, it has been hard which has surprised me. I have given then grass runners but other than that I cannot go near them. Hubbie has been calling for her which is hard, he just looks at me calling.

Unfortunately the hawks will never go away Clara. We have owls as well so anyone of them scare the birds. Pearl was not sick ie no dirty bum and was a nice plump bird. The way I found her, she was facing the middle of the aviary with her wings spread.

I hate it when one of my favourites dies. I've lost a few with nightfright. That's sad news, especially with the partner calling for her. A couple of my tiels have lost partners and they have never teamed up with anyone else.

I am going to try and find him a nice Whiteface Pied hen to see if he is intrested. He is a lovely dad and would be a shame for him not to be a dad.

That is really sad. I'm very sorry for your loss, and for Pearl's little mate - he must be quite confused at the moment. Straight to birdie heaven for sweet Pearl.
