yes i knew that, it is also the rarest. The price is a good indicator, i have been onto a lot of american sites and they sell Blue and Gold MAcaws for about $1000 but the Hyacinth's are $9000 it makes you think how much the Hyacinth is worth in Australia

They are really adorable! I didn't have a chance to see this blue beauty but comparing to the scarlet macaw which is a very, very big bird, I can't imagine any parrot bigger than that! Today I visited local ZOO (I'am currently on holiday overseas, in Europe) and saw a few pairs of scarlet and blue and yellow macaws, all grown up birds. I mean, they are large! I saw above links while browsing net too (thanks God there is Google! ). Well, in US they have many sorts of parrots and in Europe too, at more afordable prices than Down Under BUT! Just not being able to afford e.g. one Timneh grey or Vosmaeri Eclectus doesn't make me that unhappy. How many Americans would like to have galahs instead of pigeons flying around?? ;D Instead, they have to pay $1650 or more for a h/r baby... Still, the prices for some breeds and tough quarantine law implemented in Australia make me remember how far we are and how much more some things are complicated here than somewhere else in the world...

Hy's (not that they are really kept here) go for $50,000-$120,000!!!! Other macs usually start from $8,000 but there have been some as low as $6,000 around. My dream bird is the hyacinth macaw and yes...probably just going to be a dream.

I think we have had this conversation before........oh well...........they are a nice looking bird. I love the colour biue, but to feed them would be so hard and so expensive..........just like the bird is .........expensive ;D
you know I think my dream bird would be a blue alex........or even a blue ekkie, there have been mutations of blue ekkies and they look very different.

They are the sweetest, kindest, more affectionate birds I have ever met! Well the one I've nursed was. We had one at the clinic I was working at in the states for a month. He was beautiful! He didn't say boo all day either from memory- maybe because he was sick though.
Can you get them here in Aus?
