Being the good lad I am I went off to have a look...NOTE look at some bantams today,a breed I don't own as a matter of fact.
This is how it began sort of:
Well the phone call was made yeaterday afternoon and an appointment made to go have a look and a chat.having arrived promptly at the appointed time within minutes the breeder puts the prospective buyer to work, whilst mind you he gives a running commentary of different pens of birds (bantams) on display.
Sensory overload for a young thing like myself (stop frowning).....Belgium bantams as far as the eye can see with a few Jap bantams thrown in for good measure. Halfway through the "tour" (and I use tour loosely) my host disappears, well aftre 20mins in a strange backyard that is triple the norm surburbian land site in Sydney (cabramatta)alone I decide to wander upto the house where upon I am offered refreshments....and than folks we are back to finish fixing a roost perch that has fallen down (the 2nd 1 we fix btw),replace some wiring that has fallen off, delouse some hens, check 3 nests for hatchlings (whilst being pecked...me not him)relining several "grower" pens full of young pullets and cockerals with fresh stable sweepings.
Finally I am told that a trio of bantams await me but if I take another rooster it would be a great help to the breeder. Finally help arrives via a text message from my uncle whom I promptly call back for rescuing.
It took me 2.5hours to peruse the birds..have them picked out for me and to finally take my leave.
Well the birds are lovely and they will be shown this year but heck I still had to pay for them after all the manual labour. ;D
My moral is I shall never ask to cme perusing on a Sunday again UNLESS I have it in writing that I am there to look and poss buy but not to work.
PFFFT to that I had a great time and have ordered more birds already!!!
Now if the confessional bursts into flames its not my fault!!!!
