YAY. we released 2 birds back into the wild on Christmas day. A magpie who had a damaged wing and a kookaburra who had a split beak. What a wonderful feeling knowing these birds are back where they belong, and healthy again. What a great Chistmas pressie for us and the birds.
Cheers, Jules

Both of them are fit and healthy. We would never let any critter go if it wasn't. The maggie had some soft tissue damage which healed fairly quickly and the kooka's beak was fixed with, would you believe, superglue. There was no more splitting in his beak and he could eat properly. Don't worry all of our charges are fully fit and healthy before we even think about releasing them.

Don't magpies need to be reliesed in groups? as once they leave their group they will get killed by the others? This is just something I heard

Maggies have territories that they live in and there are no maggies in the area we let her go in, it's actually on my partner's property and the maggies around here don't use the house yard, which is about 5 acres, as part of their territory. We keep a watch to see where the birds are claiming territory near the farm. We have the added advantage of state forest over the road so there are a lot more places to release our critters. Even though it's best to release an animal as close to where you found it as safely possible, sometimes that isn't the best option, or if you were given the animal by someone else you don't always know where it came from as in the case of our maggie. Don't worry, the animal's welfare and best interests are ALWAYS our priority.
