Here is a pic of 2 kookas we are looking after. They can't be released as they both have wings that were too badly damaged so they can't fly properly. The one on the left is Fluff, we've had him since last April and the other is Fifi. We were given her about 2 months ago.

We have to work out where they will go but they'll stay with us for the time being. We feed them day old chicks and mice that we buy in frozen bags from the wildlife carer we help. Also (this is going to sound horrible but it's what they eat) I had a baby silvereye which didn't survive its first night so I gave it to Fluff. They also eat some of the mince/insectivor mix we make for the maggies as they share the same aviary. It's wonderful being able to get so close to them and see their wonderful markings, you're right John, they really are pretty birds and I never get sick of their laugh.

He's gorgeous, Tracey, and so much littler than ours. The first time I tried to feed Fluff he nearly crushed my little finger LOL. I soon learned to keep any fingers not holding food WELL out of his way. Hehe.

when we found him I think he was straight out of the nest as his flying skills were not real good, but as time went on he got better flying in to be fed. About the time we found him there were 2 dead kookaburras on the road on the highway, probably about 1 km away and it was extremely windy (blowing a gale actually), so we wondered if his parents were killed by a car and he was just not a good flyer and ended up over here.
anyway, I hope he is still around and found a family of kookaburras to live with.
