On Friday afternoon when I came home from school my mum told me to have a look in my dove aviary and in there was a young crested pigeon. My mum thought it was old enough to eat by itself, but it wasn't. Now I have got a baby crested pigeon to look after. It is week, but sallowig its food ok. I would take some photos, but the camera is Flat.

is it feathered??? Keep it in a warm box .......... do you have a brooder?? If not then put a warm hot water bottle under it with a towel on top of that so as not to burn it ............ my hot water bottles have a fluffy cover over them and I still put a tea towel folded up on top of that anyway.......just make sure it doesn't get too hot. Seeing as it is still alive you must be doing ok with it.

Finally, I got a pic of the pigeon, so here you go. It only seems to shake in the morning, but he\she is feeding well. I don't have a brooder unfortunally, but I would love to get one some day. When it is feeding time he\she is so cute beause it trys to find food and it makes it difficult to open its beak so it can be fed. He\she doesn't stop moving when it is feeding time and it is feathered as you cand see in the picture.

It probably wouldn't hurt to put it in a box with a soft towel and fluffy toy to snuggle up to. I know I am a sook, but that is what I do for my baby birds when they are being raised. Even if only during the night.

Thanks for the pic Roxy...from the photo it's face looks kind of shrunk (correct me if l am wrong) This means it's dehydrated and l would try to give the Pigeon more fluid's.Also like Tracey mentioned a box would be better for recovery,it would keep it warm also

OOo he/she is really only a baby, we get lots of babies here too roxy, silly cresties seem to think they can fly before they actually can! as grego said keep those fluids up and as tracey said keep him warm and keep that crop nice and full.!! im sure you know all this anyway! They are pretty birds and always make me laugh when trying to woo the girls:) hehe hope it all goes ok roxy!!

The little crested pigeon is still alive and well, he is eating well and strong. I am going to have to past him over to a wildlife carer I know because we are going away and wouldn't be able to feed the little guy, so I thought handing him over is the best choice to do.

That is good to hear. You've done well. Giving him over sounds like the right thing if you're not able to continue its care.

I couldn't find a wildlife carer soon anouth so I took him to Adelaide with me. He is still going very well and when it comes to the time he is released I will proberly release him where he was found.

Thats usually the best place to release wild critters. I've taken rescues with me quite often and most seem to handle it well. I think its cos they have their carer as a constant so they feel safe and secure.
