Aloha from Hawaii, my name is Lori and I'm the proud Mama of 3, and soon to be 4 IRN's. A 16 month lutino male named"Tai" his sister, a green, maybe turquoise? female named "Kiwi" and a 20 month Blue, sex? named "Blue" and a soon to be, albino, Sex?. I also raise Lineolated parakeets. My first IRN, "Blue" was a rescue which was attacked by a Eclectus. The previous owner told me Blue was a male. But at 20 months, the ring is barely visible. And the behavior, is that of a female. My lutino male is 16 months and his red ring is prominent. His cage mate is his sister a very strikingly beautiful lime green color w/ a yellow sheen. I want to separate the brother and sister but the two are very close. The lutino, I want to pair with my (I suspect female Blue) but the blue is so aggressive. I have their cage side by side about 4 inches away. The lutino and blue often sit close in their cages and often look and talk to each other. But when Tai is out of his cage and gets too close WHAM, Blue attacks!! What do I need to do to get this birds together? Should I permanently separate the sister from his cage and into her own cage? When I do, she squawks for him as they were kept together since birth by their previous owner. I've only had them for 2 weeks now. I'm having a custom cage being built for a pair. Any advise would be a big help. Thank you and Aloha form Hawaii Lori

I just want to say welcome! Your ringies sound so cute. Maybe if you do cage them together, let the female go in first so its like her cage and then add the male so he cant get cage territorial as it will be "her" cage. Make sure they are supervised so nothing too big happens. Make sure the cage is big enough for them to get right away from each other so they can have some space. My alex will bit my conure but when they are in the aviary and they dont know im looking they sit next to each other.
Oh and Linnies awww, your so lucky, they are really expensive here.

Hi and welcome Lori. I'd definitely separate brother from sister. Maybe cage them next to each other so they're still close together. I'd guess that Blue is cage territorial which is why she has a go at Tai. Have you tried having Blue and Tai out of their cages at the same time? I would try that in an area away from their cages but be prepared to separate them if things get too serious aggression wise. Good luck with them, they all sound gorgeous.

Hi Lori I would start to seperate the brother and sister by putting them in different cages next to each other to start with like Jules suggested.

Yes I agree with separating the brother and sister, but if you can't for some reason then do not put a nest box in with them and if they do mate and she does lay eggs, take them away from her and put artificial ones in or even fertile ones from another bird?? But do not let them have babies together.
