Hi - I am relatively new to birdkeeping ( 3 years ) and I have three outdoor aviaries with gouldians, blue face parrot finches, stars, orangebreasted waxbills, zebbies, Bourkes and Scarlet chested parrots. I also have two cockatiels and two budgies inside. I live in the Illawarra area which is south of Sydney and look forward to visitin this forum. I actually found it through a UK forum - which although busy and friendly is not always as useful as a'local' site!!

yes my first forums were based in the US and though I enjoyed my stay on one of the sites I found it annoying seeing and talking about birds I had no chance of ever owning over here (well not right now anyway) lol.
Welcome here and hope you enjoy your stay here. There a couple of others here into the finches etc too.

Hi Sebastion - my gouldians and Bourkes do quite well in the winter time - I am lucky enough to have a very sheltered warm north east facing spot for them - the wind doesnt really get to them at all - I do wrap up the gouldian aviary with clear plastic if it is wet and cold though. Kat - the scarlets are aviary birds but dont seem to be as hardy as the others - they spent last winter indoors as the male looked fluffed and unhappy - but they are in a warmer aviary this time and I will see how they go Thanks for the warm welcomes

Hi Sue, Hope you have fun here Scarlets are one of my favourites but yes, very delicate, although mine have been doing well in the drought. It has just got really cold here in Brisbane but I find they cope with cold, just any humidity gets to them. Cheers
