Hi all, as the heading states I am rather addicted to the avicultural world. I recently returned home (Aus) and could not wait to get involved with the best bird species in the world ....... Aussie natives of course. (no offense intended)
As you can see, I am passionate about my natives and really enjoy the antics of the lorikeets. I only have rainbows, scalies, red collars, musk, little and purple crown lorikeets and yellow crowned kakarikis. (not native I know, but I couldn't say NO )
Anyway, enough rambling. I wanted to say hi and congratulate admin on a great site.

Hey all, Thank you for all the welcomes, it just goes to show there are no people like aussies. But please, don't get me wrong here, there are some gorgeous birds around the world, the asiatics, south American and Africans certainly have some beautiful birds. I have been abroad (1 word, not 2 lol) to long and missed the mindblowing beauty of our much under-rated natives. This certainly is a friendly place, I am glad I stumbled my computer illiterate self here.

Heya summit. I have a couple of Rainbow lorries as well. 1 handtamed and 3 aviary birds. They really are full of character those birds. My tame lorrie, Stickybeak, says a couple of words and wolfwhistles and dances when asked (or when he wants lol) . He loves to "wrestle" on the bottom of his cage with me and gets sulky if I win, so I gotta let him win most of the time After all, it's a mans ego at stake ya know! Anyway, welcome! Tasha

I have been sitting here trying to come up with a really witty comeback to the "male ego" comment ......................................... but what hope do I have, I am just a mere male myself

I was in the MidWest USA for 4 years and worked then went on my own in the wholesale live pet trade. I went over to learn more and see how things are done on a large scale. To be honest I have to say I was not that impressed as that side is purely dollar driven so I decided I'd rather be at home and actually be a responsable (sp?) keeper.
I have a degree in aquaculture, been keeping birds of various species since I was 10 (gasp - 27 years ago) and now keep birds purely for my own interest. So now I do what I do because I enjoy it on a much smaller scale. Even though I do miss my Scarlet macaws.

Did you have scarlets as pets or did you work with them? My breeder has gorgeous macaws. I think he has scarlets, he's had them for 12 years and they won't breed for him. Lent a friend a hen and she's bred for his mate. Go figure.

My scarlets were pets, but were also great breeders. 8 months of the year they were the friendliest birds, would fly onto me and want to play. Once the hen got broody though they totally change and became very territorial. I had a pair of Goffin Cockatoos (look like a Sulphur Crest Cockatoo without the crest) wich seemed to like to show off their chicks. Every nest inspection the hen would climb up my arm and it became a struggle to get her back. She would fully raise her chicks though. That is part of why I like birds I suppose, they have personalities and no two are exactly allike.

Welcome! Kakarikis are almost native...just a hop skip and a jump away lol. Unfortunately I have the exotics bug so my favourites aren't australian which results in more dollars...bugger! But I do love out aussies...like the black too's and king parrots..also some of the aussie ringnecks....I LOVE macaws but yeah...again...$$$...My favourite is the hyacinth so yeah..Never going to happen but i also love the Green wing and the Blue and golds...plan on getting a blue and gold when they drop in a few years..already have a breeder picked LOL! Goffin cockatoo's are so cute! But again..welcome!
