Yep...it's invasion of the families!!!! And I'm afraid Courtney that Alex is definitely taken He is currently inspecting his nest box with his girlfriend, a 12 year old female called Buster. In fact, all my Alex's except one are all their babies! (You can tell that I hate to part with them). But, when I reached 8 about 4 years ago, I said enough was enough (in hindsight I probably should have stopped at 3). However, now that I have them, I wouldn't part with them for the world The Plum Head (Pippi) is an honorary Alexandrine I will sort out some photo's to show you all. I think dad has visitors tonight, so this surprise will be waiting for him tomorrow when he logs on Cheers, Bec

I was wondering last night when I read your introduction Bec - but your denial this afternoon when I mentioned it had me fooled into thinking it was just a coincident. Very devious. Some of Bec's birds have already been introduced here - see aussiebirds.proboards27.com/index.cgi?board=idea&action=display&thread=3941 for the two lutino Alexes. cheers, Dad

LOL only 8 Alexandrines? Are they all tame? As someone who helped to hand raise all but one, they are silly tame - typical good natured Alexes - one of the very best pet parrot species. Only problem with 8 Alexes is that Bec is in danger of early deafness when they all decide to shout at once! MP3 players have nothing on those 8 Alexes for danger to the eardrums cheers Mike

Gosh, I have contemplated getting Alexandrines for awhile now, however not for inside pets but would like friendly ones. Are aviary Alex's okay? I mean will they be friendly and not freak when you go near them? I've gotten the rosella's to the stage where they just sit and watch me when I'm in their aviary and the princesses just sit and chat to me when I'm working outside their cage. Or would it be better to keep a pair of handraised ones instead of parent raised ones for an aviary?

I bought Shrekies mate Alex as an aviary bird. I didn't want to buy someones beloved pet and put him in an aviary. He was the most flighty bird I have seen. But he seems to be settling now and is getting used to me and actually hangs out with Shrekie near the door sometimes when I am putting the food in the cages. Shrekie flies to my shoulder all the time too.

Alot of the alex's I've seen in avairies have been really friendly too...maybe they were handraised? But even the parent raised ones at bird fairs have been pretty curious about people.

Yeah but wouldn't Alex be emulating Shrekie? When I bought a handraised green cheek I put him in with an aviary male I had who was terrified of people. Within a few days this aviary gcc was taking food from my fingers. Would 2 aviary bred ones become less terrified or would one need to be h/r for the other to copy?
