I have only two walls left to paint in the birdy room and I painted the other two BEFORE I got the birds and was wondering if I could paint the other two while they are in their cage on the otherside of the room? The paint is Prepcoat from Dulux and washes out in water and from what I can tell has no fumes (not any I have smelt). The top coat is Wattyl and says on the tin -NO PAINT ODORS.. THANKS

To be on the safe side I would remove your birds into another part of the house. I would not like to take any chances....just incase. Also just because we can't smell anything does not mean it isn't harmful to our birds. Look at how dangerous the "non stick" cook and bakeware is to our fids.

I totally agree about moving them out of the area when painting. I just wouldn't like to chance it. Also, I was really shocked when I read about the teflon thing. Pretty scarey stuff really.

I painted the entire of my house late last year with acrylic paints (water wash up) and when it came to painting the lounge and dining rooms I only moved the birds out to the verandahs for the duration of my painting those rooms otherwise they were inside. But I have the added luxury of living in Central Queensland and I can leave all windows and doors open (security screened and locked) except during really bad weather (and we don't get really bad weather often).

oh and I work in a paint shop and there is a "Haymes" paint called Natures Pallet and it is supposed to be more environmentally friendly with no fumes and no toxins ...... I always recommend it to people who are worried about painting kids rooms. Haymes paint is not available in all paint shops (we deal mainly with Haymes)
But I also worked in Bunnings and I know they had an eco friendly paint too and I think it was a British paint brand. It may have been Wattyl but i think it was British paints (not Dulux or Taubmans..... but they might have a similar type out now).
