Can anyone offer advise as to what birds would be good to share an aviary with a pair of plumheads. (The hen is too young to breed with this year) I have seen some finches in photos online and someone said that grass parrots or similar should be OK.
Your comments would be appreciated.

I wouldn't be keen on housing Plumheads with any other birds, since they can be quite pugnacous. My pet female Plumhead - Pippi - ended up having to be given to my daughter, Bec (Freder88) to live with her Alexes since Pippi kept on attacking Jello, our tough lutino ringneck hen. If it is necessary to house them with other birds, then perhaps Ringnecks would be my first choice. I note that your hen is young, and it has been my experience that the hens are the argumentative ones - the males have been better natured so since she is young you may be OK until she matures and you give them their own flight.
However it does depend on the nature of the Plumheads, some would be OK with Neophemas, finches etc in a large aviary with no breeding boxes, but always have a plan B in case trouble develops. We have had them in the shop in a mixed flight aviary with no problem, both a larger parrot mix and also a small parrot/finch aviary, but that is a bit different to a quiet back yard aviary - a busy shop situation can be quite different and the same rules don't necessarily apply.
cheers,
Mike
I used to have a pair of aviary Plumheads that were used for breeding, but they were always in their own flight, never mixed with other birds.

If it were me I would probably keep them on their own. Plummies are so pretty and sometimes are hard to breed.

I have housed plumheads in a mixed aviary with Alexandrines, ringnecks, cockatiels, rosa bourkes, rosellas, turks with no problems at all. I seperate my birds at breeding time.

Robert my pair will breed this year. The cock bird was a little young last year so didnt fertilise the eggs properly. They mated and the hen sat tight. The eggs were clear but I let her sit full term.
