Hello can you please advise on what things i need to make sure of when purchasing a macaw from interstate (western Australia).
Eg is 10 months too old or young for me to aquire it for a pet ?
should it come with some sort of registration or proof etc that it is no smuggled ?
Do i need to get a permit to own it before it arrives or can i apply after ?
Please help what do i need to make sure of ?

Hi Allen, With registration you will need to know all about Ebag: aussiebirds.proboards27.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1033So yes there is alot of paperwork and proof that it can be traced to legally imported stock. If I was spending that much on a bird I would want to collect it in person but at the very least I hope you have references for the vendor. You should buy a copy of 'A Guide to Macaws' from a pet store or www.birdkeeper.com.au/v2/macaw.aspI don't know alot about them sorry, others may have some experiance but the guide to book should have the min. cage size hours per day of attention etc. I do know they are VERY LOUD ! A man was telling me on Tuesday that when his friend bought a pair they screamed so loud the first week the neighbours cows stopped producing milk. Good Luck

OMG ......... the cows stop producing milk.......that is loud. ;D
I don't think 10 months is too old because I think they wean at about 7 months or it might even be 9 months. I know I was shocked when I realised how long the handraisers actually are feeding these big babies.
Lucky you also........when you do get your baby be sure to post pics.
What state are you from?? Can you buy from a reputable breeder closer to you so you can actually part with the money and take your bird with you all in one hit??
I know when I bought Skye my female ekkie............it was so hard to part with the $800 but the breeder was local and has a good rep.
I bought the male for the same cost plus freight and I gave the guy such a hard time lol I think he laughs about it now ;D (least I hope so) as I was terrified of paying the money and not having a bird at the end of it. But I have bought 2 birds now sight unseen (pics only) and the birds were freighted to me with absolutely no problems whatso ever.
Good luck and I am jealous ........ I think ;D

What price are you paying? Cos scammers usually put it at a ridiculously low price so make sure your bird is actually real. And depending on what type of macaw it is, the price will vary.
