Hi all When I first got my ringies, I noticed the grey and blue one had their longest tail feathers a bit ...whats the word... ratty looking and bent. I thought nothing of it, just assumed it had snapped in parts due to being long and maybe it happened when they were in their travel cages etc. But today when I looked at the grey one's tail properly...it doesn't seem to be snapped..as in, I couldn't see a break in the shaft but now I think the actual shaft seems to be curved/bent (I don't know if it has always been like that, or if it's changed or if it really is just the shaft broken in places ?) Today I also noticed the green one's tail feathers seem a bit crooked too...I don't know if it has always been like this but I don't think so, at least not so prominent. The blue one's tail feathers are probably now the least obvious compared to the grren ones and grey ones. Below I posted pics. Can anyone tell me if this is normal (can this happen to ringnecks) or is it a sign of a disease/health problem ? I'm starting to panic again..... Thanks anyone for any help/info you can share!! Kat

Wow they are "ratty" aren't they........but I also thought just damaged from the surroundings too. You should see Gunny's tail feathers they look ratty too and it is just from being in the nest box with Skye. I don't know how they are going to cope when the bub gets bigger. Stephen might have to make a longer box....maybe.

One of my ringies tails look similar to that. I have a male in with my Jasper and for the first few days she pulled his tail and it ended up bent and ratty to. Are they having any tiffs or competing for pecking order Kat? It is coming into breeding season now to.

Oh Tash...there doesn't seem to be much arguamets going on between the boys...except sometimes at bed time..when they're quarrelling over who's gonna perch where but I've made adjustments so I think it'll be ok. The green one is a bit grumpy with me and sometimes tries to bite me when I put my hands in the cage but only (sometimes) in the mornings - this started when the breeding season started, so I'm wondering if maybe that has something to do with it. But it's all GOOD

In the aviary at the moment I have 7 out of the 9 ringnecks that have either a bent tail, ratted tail or no tail - it must be tail season.
