Oh my gosh my family have been so excited!! This is the first time our canaries have had babies! I think there is 3 or 4 little cuties in the nest and they are so TINY! And so cute!
Ok ok, enough of the hyperness, is there anything important we should do to ensure healthy babies? Like maybe food or something? Thanks so much! And how long until the babies can fly? Is it possible to hand raise a canary baby?

The babies are ready to leave the nest at about 3 weeks of age. Singa (now named Elvis by my daughter in law who I gave Singa) was only 2.5 weeks old when he jumped out of the nest. I put him back and 24 hours later he was out again.....never to be put back in. He was the only baby in the first batch.
Their second batch had 3 babies, but all died by 1 week of age. I don't know why. I took the nest box out for quite a few months and cleaned everything up. Since putting the nest box in they have layed 3 more clutches with no babies. The first clutch disppeared........possibly gecko's or frogs. The second clutch didn't hatch and were infertile and she is sitting on 3 more eggs at the moment and they should hopefully hatch next weekend.
I give mine egg and biscuit mixture when they have babies and for a while before they have babies. I also give mine the same food I feed my ekkies (all my birds get some of the ekkie mix and fruit) and I boil an egg and give them half a boiled egg quite a few times during the week. I make sure there is plenty of soft food as well as seed and some apples or pear (just one slice of each is enough per day for the canaries).

Thanks very much !! I'll buy those stuff ASAP.
Why don't canary owners like to agree that the canary is a finch??

I have no idea............they are canaries aren't they?? My father and uncle used to breed canaries and finches.......I never knew any better they were either canaries or they were finches.

Yeah lol they are so big now compared to when they just hatched, I think it's only been 3-4 days.
Is it possible for a canary to be hand raised?

Bickitrainer,It is possible for them to be handraised, but you would need to be very good at it. I put links above about that. Most people keep finches to breed them. You need to be aware ,that if you handraise them, they would not be good candidates for breeding. from Robert and Precious

yes it is possible but I would not do it unless you were experienced. They are so tiny......as you know. You could try to handtame it while it was in the nest and then when it fledges keep it up or tame it when it fledges and keep it tame. They can apparently make nice pets.

I certainly don't have the experience. They have grown sooo much over the weekend! I was at my dads for the weekend and was amazed when I saw them again.

One of the babies died today I feel so bad, I could've helped it. But I was just so busy to take notice. It lost competition from fighting with its brothers and sisters for food and just starved to death. Poor thing.
