Hi everyone, I am an owner of a hand-reared Rainbow Lorikeet named Jaffa. He/She is about 18 months old and we are planning to get him DNA tested soon. My husband and I think he might actually be a female bird. We had another Rainbow Lorikeet named Harlie about 3 years ago but unfortunately he flew away when he was about 18 months old.....in fact it was 2 weeks before our wedding. Not a good time! We were devastated! Anyway we think he was a male as he used to do alot more rubbing and dancing. Little Jaffa is like a bird version of "Houdini" and has constantly flown away and have had many sleepless nights worried about him not coming back....but he sits and waits until we find him Totally different personality to Harlie but they are siblings as we know the breeders quite well so got another one from the same parents. I love Rainbow Lorikeets and they amuse me for hours with the antics and playing, but man do they rule the roost. Very temperamental little things Earlier this year we nearly lost Jaffa and had to rush him to a vet as the neighbours decided to spray weed killer on a windy day and we keep Jaffa outside so he was a very sick bird but luckily I had come home early from work as I too was sick and thankful that I did otherwise he wouldn't be here now. I am just about to open a new thread about my problem I have with Jaffa which I will do now. Looking forward to reading all the info on the forum. Thanks Debbie Owner of Jaffa

Welcome to "AB" Debbie & Jaffa. Rainbows are so cute and funny aren't they? Sorry to hear about Harlie going missing. Sounds like you will have to keep a very close eye on this little troublemaker lol. That was so lucky you getting to Jaffa intime from the poisioning. I have a couple of rainbows myself, they have just had 2 bubs. Sooooo cute lol. Hope you have fun here. Tasha

Welcome. What did the vet do to help Jaffa when he was poisoned?

Hi Shaun, The vet pumped Jaffa with antibiotics and kept in over night and Jaffa just slowly improved and I was able to take him home the next morning. He slept alot the next day, and the day after he was totally back to normal. I cleaned everything thoroughly before he went back in the cage. Poor thing!
