Not sure where you live Mike but it looks like a scrub fowl ............not a bush turkey or mallee fowl. I'm assuming that it's about the size of a bantam chook on steroids !!!. These guys are also known as jungle fowl/ scrub hen or orange footed scrubfowl. The only thing that isn't ringing true to me is that they normally build a nesting mound like the bush turkey. They can certainly wreck your garden if they get carried away. The other thing is that the eye patch on this one is very pink where most are pale going into yelloy. Their normal range is coastal norther Australia from the Pilbara around the top and down to near Rockhampton in Qld............though I have seen them in the state forests around Bundaberg. It could also be an escapee from another bird keeper and not a native........it certainly doesn't look like a pheasant to me. They have quite a long tail and are more brown. My guess is in the 'turkey' family. Cheers Viraba

I am going with Natalie with this one. Yes it looks like a female pheasant. We used to have some pheasants and the female doesnt have a long tail like the male.

Hi Mike uuuuuummmmm we ummmmmmm some of us have a confession to make and this poor fool drew the short straw. You see it's like this we have a very canny and sometimes shifty moderator/prankster with us here at Aussie and she is a bundle of laughs, she also runs the Who Am I Topic where we have to choose a type of bird. Well in the past she has fooled us a couple of times and since then it's been very hard to trust her content here lol, so when your picture came up, some of us here thought it was one of her pranks as she specialises in graphics and changing graphics! If you know what I mean, thats why you and others probably wondered what the hell we were talking about in some of the posts we made, sorry but i couldn't stop laughing when Matt found the true details to the birds making us realise that this indeed wasn't a prank but a legitimate post lol! In the end the shifty one has got us all again as she probably realised what was going on and went along for the ride haha lol! Anyway please accept our apologies hope you have had a laugh, too. cheers
