I lost 5 budgies in 4 days. 3 of those were from my handicapped birds cage and 2 were magnificent breeding hens. This has completely shattered my breeding program and now my budgie stud is in ruins. I can't take any more losses and atm I can't afford more budgies. I had done a major cull to the pet shop of half my budgie flock and now with 2 super hens dead, I'm pretty much dead in the water as far as having a budgie stud now. The cold here has been so cold and for such a long period - my birds have not had to cope with the cold for so long.

Oh no Karen I am so sorry to hear about that. Gee maybe we shouldn't move down that way in the next couple of years. It has been cold enough here for the past few weeks. We have had a couple of mornings below zero and Stephen has had to chip ice from the windscreen of his van twice now.
Do you have roll up blinds? I told Stephen that if we do move down there I want him to put up some sort of blinds or coverings so I can shut the birds off from the weather during bad weather.

Sorry about your loss, especially when you lose good breeders and it mucks your plans up. It has been an exceptionally long cold winter. We had frost on the ground again this morning. I used to lose birds in winter because they would sit out in the cold and get a chill. Now I have tarps I drag down at night and also when it is going to rain. It has helped a lot.

I too can relate to the cold!!!!!!!!!! BBBBRRRR............it was -6 here last night. I have had enough of the cold and so have my birds! :(So sad for your loss, I have lost a few Finches and one Scarlet hen, and my female Bob White Quail over winter and just the other day, I was given a female cockatiel to put with my lonely male, and she died two days later. I was devastated, and the only thing I can put it down to is the cold. If I didn't live in such a beautiful spot, I would seriously consider moving further north. Eventually we are going to, but life is too good here!

Karen so sorry for your loss, I know what you are going through, I have also lost breeding budgies this year from the cold, and they have been in separate breeding cages inside the breeding room but the cold snap has taken its toll on them. I'm also coming to terms with some LOWLIFES that came onto my property while I was at work and STOLE yes stole two breeding pair of IRN'S and a Albino hen IRN but not her mate. FLY FREE BEAUTIFUL BABIES & TO YOU

Oh Karen What sad news....for you and your budgies!!! Not much I can say to fix things....except send you big cyber HUGS and tell you it WILL be ok. Everyhting happens for a reason, in this case, you are still yet to find out, what reason that is...hmmm...but don't beat yourself up over it - every experience makes us wiser and stronger. I think this is part of what a bird breeder has to endure ...unfortunatelly - strange things do happen. I hope you are OK and not feeling to sad <<<<<<HUGS>>>>>>>
