As you know my green turquoisine hen died so I went on the hunt for a new green hen. Of course being a bird obsessed person with no reason or self control I have bought 5 yellow turqs Still no green hen Anyway I went to get 1 hen on Sat and came home with a pair and 2 hens and my parents are picking up another yellow hen on Monday sorry they are all looking abit scruffy because I took these photos when I had just got them home and wormed them etc Here is the pair: Here are the two hens plus a cockbird I bred 2 years ago I am letting him choose: I had to make an educated guess which hen was the mother of the other 2 hens, I hope I picked right, the one I decided on has a deeper blue brow than the other two

They are beautiful. Love the colours. Looks like you may need to go shopping again to get your green hen

Aren't they gorgeous? Turquoisines are a bird I'd love to own but really don't feel I know enough about them - I'd have to spend a decent amount of time researching them.

Hey Jane, guess what I saw at the pet shop today? A couple of green turquoisines. According to the lady I talked to, one was even a hen.

oh no.......hide your post from Jane ......... she might be "tempted " to buy it. lol good call Tracey I do really need a hen but of course freight would be more than the bird Don't worry my better half was there he did the price bargaining bit, its not my strong point Farseeker if you are interested the cocks have the red shoulders so they are easy to tell apart from about 3 weeks old And fingers crossed with 3 pairs of yellows now (1 red fronted opaline yellow pair) I should have oodles in a few months so anyone who wants some let me know

Well now I'll be able to go back and tell you with 100% certainty whether they have a hen or not. They also have two bonded gcc breeding pairs. One is priced at $400, the other has been dropped to $250 cause one of them is plucking the other. Considering that they've been there since before I moved back up here I'm not surprised. I had to leave pretty quickly though, otherwise they would have been coming home with me.

Yeah you gotta watch that, once there is something not right and you want to help the poor birds you have to leave very very quickly ;D

Yeah. It's not that the pet store is bad exactly - I just don't think there's a very large 'breeding' community here, so they get stock in and it can take ages to move. The cage they're in at the moment is pretty standard - not great-sized cage, no toys. This store is a sight better than most (all of the ones I've seen) up here, but it still makes me unhappy to see that.

I decided not to risk having chosen a daughter instead of mum so I swapped her with the hen from my other pair, and my parents collected the other hen from Bribie so now I have 3 yellow pairs set up ;D
I know it'll probably take them a few more weeks now to decide to lay but its early in the season so worth the peace of mind.
