I was just wondering, do the same pair of canaries stay together for ever? Husband and wife for eternity?
Because, before the babies, we had 2 females and 1 male in a big cage. The brown female is a breeding machine, but the red female just eats and sleeps. I wonder if the male just breeds with his mate?

Many show breeders of canaries will set up two females with one male if they have a particularly good male, so I guess the answer to your question is no. Your non-breeding hen is most likely either too old to breed (they have a relatively short breeding life) or just isn't in the mood A male may have a preferred female mate but that won't necessarily stop him breeding with another available female. cheers, Mike

Thanks very much Mike!
I think the hen doesn't feel like it. Because she's not that old. She's about 2 years old...
