Well, both their ceres have gone dark and yesterday they had another go at doing the tail waggle - it was very shortlived as Anath didn't have the patience for Tristan to sort himself out.
They had another go this morning but it resulted in the same.
To be honest I think Tristan is worried about his footing or squashing her, which is a concern of mine as well.
They don't have a nestbox as we don't want to have any babies at this time (my Mum would kill me).
My worries are these - if Tristan does somehow manage to figure things out I'm worried that Anath may not be physically able to lay properly. She has curvature of the spine and it's very likely she has other bone issues due to poor diet for both her parents and her when she was in the nest. She's also a bit of a midget.
I'm covering their cage from 6:30pm to 6:30am to help them get to sleep. If I could be certain it isn't going to cause problems for Anath if they do actually get to that point I wouldn't be worried, but is there anything else I could do?

I think that the covering and no nest is the best you can do to discourage egg laying. I'm sure you will have calcium well covered in her diet but I haven't heard alot about hen budgies egg laying without a nest so you mightn't have a problem. Not like 'tiels where you hear about it all the time.
