Does anyone know if Princess Parrots mate for life. My male, whose partner is sick at the moment and probably won't breed this year, is making eyes at my new female in the next cage. She is interested and is chasing the male in with her away every time he comes near her. I'd love to breed with him, but I thought he was bonded with the sick female.
I feel a bit guilty about putting him with the new female. They definitely seem keen, but nothing might happen if I put them together.

No, Princess cocks especially are quite happy to chat up any available female, and if no suitable Princess female is around they will try it on any available bird, even quail. I would definitely be trying with the new hen if she seems to take his fancy.
Most parrot species don't form a life-long bond - that is, if they get separated form their mate they will look for a new mate pretty quickly. That is why the vast majority of pet parrots re-home very easily if the need arises.
cheers,
Mike

Thanks Mike, that makes me feel much better. I am going to move her in and see what happens. I hope you are feeling a lot better now.

I just did my nightly check and they are sleeping next to each other on either side of the wire. How cute. Maybe he thinks she is his partner, who is inside at the moment.
