I have put peanut and pistachio into their cage together now (pistachio being my rescure birdie) I got the results for pistachio last week and thankfully he is a male! mabye for rescuing him he rewarded me with being a boy lol!!
They are ignoring each other at the moment and there has only been two squabbles so far (hes been with pea for 2 days now). Lots of displaying going on but no preening or contact yet. hopefully over then next month they will bond closely and mabye give me some babies in the enar future:)

They are still ignoring each other, in fact peanut doesnt seem remotely interested? should i take away some of the toys and the nest box so that they might interact a little more?

Megan, could you as well buy a matched Lovebird Couple. Putting two budgies together, extremely good chance, they will bond.Lovebirds can be fussy who they choose as mates. I don't think they can be blamed for that.We humans, are the same.Is it possible to keep Peanut and Pistachio ,but also buy a matched pair? Maybe www.birdsnall.com.au can help. Maybe Peanut and Pistachio might come around? If you could see two lovies already preening each other, and one is a male and the other a female, then you are made. Some breeders of even other species, sell a couple as already a proven pair. I can't think of the right word, but I think you know what I mean. Best Robert and Precious

hope they start interacting with each other soon megen and have some babies, the first mate i got for Kiwi he had no interest in her and killed her when they were put in a smaller cage as we were moving . I bought Kiwi a new mate not long ago and they didn't have any squabbles or anything and didn't even ignore each other they preened each other straight away and have built a nest.

Hmmm, how long have they been together? Maybe just see how it goes for a little longer.

When I put Alex in with Shrekie I did not see any interaction between them. So I had no idea until the eggs hatched (and a week later than I expected too ........ so I was not expecting babies at all) that there would be any bubs. Obviously they were getting "cosy" in private ;D

Oh I should add that I got Alex in March and the breeding season for Alex's starts around July to Dec, so they had a few months to get friendly. Now I do see Alex feeding Shrekie but I have never seen them mating........unlike the ekkies who mate all the time

Robert, i wont be able to buy a matched pair until i go to perth and earn a bit more money!! i have been spending lots of money on the chooks lately so i dont have much left!! Matched and proven pairs are really expensive - no matter what the colour they are usualy around $200 which is ridiculous. I will be keeping Peanut and pistachio, they are too cue to sell on and perhaps if i buy another couple of lovies they may choose alternative mates. on the upside i saw them chatting away tonight and sitting facing each other - no preening as of yet but atleast they are not ignoring each other. i wil give it time and see how they go! thanks everyone for the great replies
