Genetics interesting here too, bickitrainer. You breed Canaries to a number of Finches and you get mules. But with breeding of Canaries to the Red Siskin, the red colour gets passed on and eventually we get the red Canary. from Robert and Precious

Some people include bourkes with their finches. Actually Bourkes are not recommended for mixing with finches because they are most active at dusk and disturb the finches who roost earlier

Thanks for those comments,Jane. Some people do mix,but they must ignore the fact, that the Bourkes are quite active, when the finches are trying to get to sleep. Pity. From Robert and Precious

nice looking canaries Greg. Mine managed to raise one youngster to fledging but have since not manged to do it again. The eggs are either fertile ( or not sometimes), or have DIS or the young hatch but die.

Looking forward to more pictures etc of canaries and finches,by Greg. Jane, I have heard of people keeping Cockatiels with Finches. It shouln't happen, beacuse of nightflight.. It is not that the Cockatiels deliberatley hurt the Finches. They might even hurt themselves. It would be horrible in dashing about because of night flight they fly into finch and thereby killing it. Best Robert and Precious

Agree Robert with your comments on finches, people don't like it but do breed mules and are accepted as a mutation for there song they produce being louder and strong,l will take a pic now of the four new hatchlings l have in the nest..back in 5 Here they are Firstly the youngster who fledged early, is grown up now doing well And the four amigo's ;D

No it is not just a parrot forum. I thought it was a "bird" forum. Just that a large majority of people own parrots of varying sizes. ;D and it is good to see other canaries (I am sure you were sick of seeing Singa when he was growing up ...... you guys know what I am like with a camera lol
Good to see another canary owner too and boy are they nice looking canaries too ;D

I am now looking for a pair (my poor wish list) - I have seen so many different types of canaries, I don't know which one I like the best - they are all so pretty.
