After the babies were fully weaned, the mother died! o_0
As I told you before, she had more eggs right after the bubs were weaned as well. She was laying on them, and the next day she was found on the floor of the cage with her head gone...
All the babies are happy and healthy, now the daddy is laying on the eggs since the mum is gone.
But I wonder how the mum died?

Sorry to hear.. Where is the cage/avairy .... outside ? This time of season there are many reason's.. birds like Butcherbirds,Currawongs will attack an avairy or caged birds with breeding season happenning.Canaries won't attack each other in this way also maybe you might have mice/rats.. which will do if there is no food for the wild young..

Our cage is outside, and it is on 4 legs that are steel, so they are slippery. I don't know if mice/rats could climb up them. Also, the cage is mainy vertical bars, no grids.
But I think it may be butcher birds. :/
Poor mummy bird...

My male canary did sit on the eggs from time to time if the mum wanted a break, but usually it was the mum. Dad fed the bub though.
