Looking for help, my yellowtail cock has become aggressive towards people. He is 4yrs old, was h/r but not super tame and has just started bonding with a hen, 7yrs old. He is feeding her and protecting the nest, (screechs and flaps at the opening). But now he is starting to 'ark up' any time someone goes in the cage. And as it is my mother who is feeding him at the moment (I am out of the state for awhile) she is a little scared of him. Any ideas on how she can deal with him ?

I'd be more likely to think that is normal breeding behaviour ... and well i dont think that can be changed ....
Mite be better to find an easier way of feeding them rather then changing them from there normal breeding behaviour ...

As Lisa has said, try to feed them from outside the cage if possible, swing out bowls etc.
I would be happy to see him bonding as it sounds like he is wanting to breed. When you say cage, do you mean aviary? Or is he brought inside to a smaller cage at times?

Thanks for the replies, and yes I mean aviary. I did think this maybe due to him wanting to mate, but was interested in any suggestions that may help manage his aggression, towards people.

Thanks Robert, A good read I am leaning towords leaving him along to breed, rather than trying to push the 'pet' issue. Especially since I am going to be away for at least a year Thanks again for all the replies Ozwell

I have similar problems with my female eclectus. My husband has fixed a door to the nest box opening which I can open and close from the outside of the aviary to lock her in or out, depending on what I am doing (either cleaning the aviary or checking on chicks). I also have made their food containers accessable with just opening up the aviary door and I can quickly get food containers out for cleaning and changeing and I do a big clean up once a week........when I lock her in the nest box.
It does sound like your boy wants to breed......so congratulations ;D
