My beautiful White Fronted Blue Scarlet boy died this morning The hen was just sitting looking at him Rest in Peace beautiful boy The hen has started laying again so I might see if she'll sit or move the 2 eggs under someone else. Does anyone know what's safe to mark eggs with? Like a non-toxic pen or such?

Oh Jane I'm sorry about your white front boy, he was so beautiful. Had he been sick? I'm curious about what to mark eggs with as well, I'm always shoving abandoned eggs under other birds, and never know if they hatch.

Sorry to hear of your loss Jane, Scarlets are such beautiful birds, though they have always been a bit touchy in my experience.
Marking eggs can be done with a 6B soft pencil, or alternatively a small dab of coloured nail polish, or a water based, non-toxic child's marker pen.
Nail polish is sometimes used to repair a cracked egg to ensure it continues to develop so is fine for egg marking.
cheers,
Mike

Jane that is so sad and OMG wasn't he stunning. I might have to look into those some day down the track (gee suddenly I find myself slapping myself around)
RIP beautiful man
Hopefully you can find a lovely lady friend for him. Do you and Ellen realise that between you ...... you have a pair???
