I had a pair of Moustache Parrots that I traded 14 kakariki for. Sold them a little over a year later. As I was moving the female she escaped - $450 went flying off into the distance. Beautiful birds they are. Derbyans I think up here in Qld anyway are a couple grand.

I have two Plum-head females as pets, or rather I have one here and the other is with my daughter and her Alexes since it didn't get on with our female ringneck - Jello. Plum heads make quite a nice pet, not affectionate but happy enough to be around people. Much like a ringneck in a smaller package. Males can talk but I haven't heard of a talking female. They do have a tendency to get a bit bitey as they mature so would need good continuing socialization. Expect to pay around $175 to $200 for a HR baby.
We have hand raised some Moustaches - and really like them. They have great personalities, as long as you don't want a cuddly pet, and can talk. They strike me as being very smart, and have a rather different personality from ringnecks in a way I find hard to describe. We sold them at $300 for a HR young.
Derbyans are a bird I have never kept but by reputation they are supposed to be the best of the Asiatics as pets. Very loud call so not an apartment or small urban block bird. Quite a big bird, and expect to pay around $1500 each.
cheers
Mike

Thanks for that great info everyone!! ;D THANKS for the great links, Robert!! So the derbyans are quite pricey hey - they look very similar to the moustache ones - I thought at one stage, that maybe it was the one same bird! So plumheads are smaller than IRNs? So like approx. what size are they?? A cockatiel size?

I have a pair of Plumheads and a pair of moustache parrots. They are very similar birds. They are very pleasent birds. There are some derbyans for sale at the moment on Petlink. They are around $3000 a pair.
The plumheads are on eggs now. There are a few pics of the plumheads and moustache parrots I have put up before under the photo section.

Yeah I know, I saw that add too. I just got to to get me a few things from the hardware store, get a sexy pair of overalls and maybe acquire a get-away car...but then I should be set, no probs. Maybe I'll put down a deposit for the time being..... ;D ;D ;D

Well I'd only be looking at companion birds for now - once I can get outdoor aviaries, then I'll be doing some major shopping and malabars will deffinatelly be one of them!
