I mentioned in a thread on Princess problems a couple of days ago about problems I had in pairing up a ringneck male after his mate became sick and had to be euthanased. To my delight as of yesterday they had 3 babies hatched, and the fourth starting to pip. It was doubly pleasing not only because of the problems getting him to accept a new mate so quickly, but also because she is a young bird - 2 years - and was pretty slack about sitting. There were times when she seemed to be off the eggs for 30 minutes or more, but I guess in the end she knew what she was doing. Hopefully she is as clued in about feeding the babies, but since he is a very experienced father who I have had probably 35 babies from over the past 5 years I think he will make sure it all goes well. He is a green split to blue, lutino and cinnamon while she is a blue lacewing, splits unknown as yet. Should provide an interesting mix of colours. Photos of babies and parents follow. cheers, Mike

Great photo's, is that another egg hatching I initially thought it was but today I took it out and the baby had died a few days ago. Also it's beak was nowhere near the hole so I think that the hen had made it. Still, considering how slack she was about incubating, 3 out of 4 is a pleasant surprise. And the three babies had plenty of food in their crops this morning. cheers Mike

Great going there young girl! WOOT! You've at least got either a cinnamon or an ino out of them so I'll be interested in seeing it feather up.
