ok, I dont want to jinx myself, but I thought Id better put a post up.
Long story.........
The gang gangs are going well, but I started thinking that I would like more eckies. So at the moment I cant afford them, so I put a link on Petlink asking to trade for eckies.
Didnt I get a respose! I got about 10 emails, and more keep coming. I was considering a swap for four eckies from one breeder. I looked out side and I was pleasently suprised to see them mating. They then preened each others vents and the male fed the female.
This came as a big surprise as I havent seen them in the log, although they do sit on top alot. They have also been squabbling every afternoon just before sunset, which led me to believe one of the reasons could be that one of birds may be ready for breeding and the other was not.
Anyway.. I have put the swap on hold to see what happens. It was very half hearted wanting to swap them, so maybe this is a sign to keep them.

Yeahhh i'd have to say .... i think it will take a while for them to settle in enough to breed ... i'm lead to believe they arent the easiest birds to breed .. i've been on the look out for one ... as a companion parrot .. but there doesnt seem to be alot out there ... but i did just seem some cheap amazons on petlink ...

Great going! Gang Gangs seem to be hard enough to get and - no offence intended - eckies seem to be becoming too common, so if you want a really exotic bird then Gang Gangs are your feathers. Tip I learned from Mother Hen (Smiley) - never look in the nest box, avoid the temptation at all costs as they are very likely to leave any eggs/chicks and let them die.

Bird Crazy, the log I put in with the gangs I left the inspection door out. I didnt cut one in. I know it can be a bad thing, but this species is hard enough to breed as it is without me wanting to look in the log all the time. I know that gangs are alot rarer than eckies, but I really have a thing for the eckies. I know by the amount of emails I recieved about them, that I will be keeping them now. Its not that I got sick of them, but they seemed to be a good bargaining tool. I never expected them to settle in and breed in the first year, let alone the first three years. That had nothing to do with the reason for the swap. It was a half hearted thing at best. Just4birds, you never know, hopefully I may have the bird just for you! I would think that they would be left as parent raised though if everything was to go well. The hen spent the day in the log today. Fingers crossed!! They are showing all the signs of a breeding pair now. Thanks Shaun

Thanks Ozwell. I have heard that inspections are a big no no. It wil be hard not knowing what is going on, but Im sure their behaviour will be a good sign. You can always tell when chicks hatch by the parents actions.
How are your black toos? have they laid as yet?

My yellowtails are fine, Sunny (the cock) is feeding the hen and is still protective of the log, maybe a little to much as me wont let the hen near it. Oh well !
Hope to hear more about your gang gangs soon, good luck!

You guys are lucky, in uk gang gangs are nearly £30000 and yellow tails £40000, i believe theres only 4prs ggs in the uk and no yellow tails although there are a few in europe. eclectus are easily bred and are now common and fairly cheap in uk about £1000pr dependent on species.

yes ekkies are becoming very very common in Aussie now too. They seem to breed like rabbits ;D I have had to take the nest box out of my aviary just to stop them from breeding as they have had 3 live clutches with 4 chicks (we lost one chick at 10 days before I managed to take it out of the nest) and each of the 3 surviving chicks is a male. Erik my boy is 5 months old, BB is 3 months old and Friar Tuck is 4 weeks old.

Good to hear about your ekkies, and yes they are always forsale around the place in Aust. But as for Aussie birds in the UK you guys seem to have more rosella mutations from what I see on the net. Oh my gang gangs are sitting My brother peeped in when the hen was out seeing two eggs. Can't wait to see them all next month when I go home for the week. See all my new babies.!

Theres a lot of mutations in europe, not so much in uk as we dont the space, in holland ,belgium, germany and france its not uncommon to see 100 plus aviaries and this is where mutations are developed, im not a great fan myself and prefer normal coloured birds. eclectus have seen a rise in price as they were neglected for a while but still fairly easy to come by.

the ekkies in these parts seem to have dropped in price lately. I haven't sold any yet as I kept the first bub (he is 5 months old) and the second bub has a home to go to but I was given an aviary and we did a deal for the bird and the third bub.....well he will be here for the next 12 weeks approx, so I will see what happens.

I have sold the pair in question, but they are still here at the moment. Long story..... I have all of my work insurances due later in the month and also a BAS staement due and really need some money, so I advertised them when I was really needing the money. They sold within minutes and had about 20 calls and more emails about them. I am now kicking myself after realising what I have done, and really dont want to sell them. The guy who has bought them is a really nice guy and is organising to put the money in my account, but I keep making excuses as to why he cant transfer it yet. I cant go back on my word.....can I? I feel like such an idiot. I dont want to see them go. Shaun
