How much poop can a bird hold? An awful lot, and it is a BIG mess when it comes out!! Jello (lutino ringneck) is sitting on 8 eggs at present - the ones used for the candling thread elsewhere. Her nestbox is in her cage in the family room at home, and she and mate Sasha have been breeding this way for around 8 years now. Jello is an excellent mother, and is scrupulous about keeping her nest box clean. Never a sign of a dropping in it, as can be seen from one of the photos below. Even when babies are in the box there are never any droppings, she must eat them since they aren't thrown out. Since she is such a tight sitter her exits from the box are infrequent, and she is currently only doing one big poop a day. And I mean BIG. The photo shows what I mean! Fortunately this time she is doing it in the cage, mostly on the newspapers, but in past years she has flown up to the curtain rail and done it there - messy One thing at least, with all that poo I know that Sasha is giving her lots of food - she certainly isn't starving in the box Jello peering out of her box Jellos 8 eggs, in an immaculate box - a bit of additional shaving have been added to make sure the eggs don't roll around to much. The poop - all in one single expulsion!

I find my ringnecks are the best for that. They always seem to have a clean nest box, and yes they certainly do make a mess when they do come out and deposit what they have been holding on to. I haven't checked my ringies boxes since I got back, so when we finally get a warm day, I will have a look.

Yes Megan, I remember the chook poos when they are brooding. lol and boy do they stink.
Shrekie did massive poos that I had to gerny the aviary at least twice a week (more often actually) and she always came over the door area of the area and it literally exploded everywhere. lol

This is a very interesting thread to view, especially when I have a gut full of food lol
It's one of those "I don't want to look but I am just gonna have to" threads lol

Of all the questions in all the groups I belong to this is the weirdest - yet very interesting - question I have ever come across. I felt compelled to look! lmao

Oh yes, we are all weird and wonderful around here. And never to ashamed to talk about anything. That is half the reason why I stick around! The other half is..................well, maybe that is the whole reason.
