Home at last..................Dorothy was right, there is no place like home. It is so good to be back with all my birdies. For the two weeks that we were gone, we didn't have any losses. The lady that looked after my birds did an amazing job. My dog however, didn't fair so well, she ended up at the vets for three days, and a lot of money later, she is on the road to recovery.
So you all know I wouldn't leave my house and go on holidays without a bird box or two. I'm thinking that we either need a bigger car or maybe a small truck
I behaved myself and didn't go over board. I nearly bought the Nandays, but after reading that they are a little noisy we talked ourselves out of them. Our suns and ringnecks make enough noise without adding anymore noise to the flock.
We travelled 2,850kms, had absolutely crap weather, camped in pouring rain and gail force winds, and lost a brand new lure to a fish that I only saw for a brief moment - but other than all that I had a ball. It was nice to go away, because it makes you appreciate what you have right on your doorstep.
We ended up buying 20 birds in all ;D whilst we were away, and then we arrived home safely about 10.45pm on Saturday night, went to town Sunday and bought 4 more birds. So all in all, the total stands at 24 birds.
We bought
3 painted finches
5 masked finches
2 longtails
2 pied cordon bleu
1 pair plumhead finches
4 spice finches
2 cut-throat finches
2 red-faced parrot finches
1 pink bourke
1 Turq
It was great to go and visit some other aviaries. We really saw some beautiful birds in our travels. And the people we visited were just amazing, their love of birds was outstanding, and they were so willing to share this with us.
I will post some photos soon. ;D
