I thought teaching colour distinction to a lovebird just wouldn't work. I thought that their brains were too small! But I was wrong! I knew from the beginning that Bicki could see colours because he was scared of red things. XD I tried to teach him before, a long time ago, but nothing ever worked. But with the new props = motivation! So I had a blue and yellow cup. I introduced only the yellow cup to him and he put the yellow bone in it easily. When I put the blue cup next to the yellow cup, he became confused. When he put the yellow bone in the blue cup, he was not praised. So slowly he learnt that one of the cups would be the wrong one. And from that, he learnt that the blue = bad!! So now that he's mastered yellow, and he knows what red is (since he's scared of it) we're going to work on blue! ^_^ We will post a video soon!!!

Awww... thanks... ;D Well, just to keep you guys updated. Bicki knows blue now. But, when I put the yellow cup next to the blue cup, he gets confused. He doesn't refer to the colour of the object he has to move.. so yeah, we'll keep working on that.

You'll have to teach him to love red........The big red fella is almost due to visit. Lol!! That is so true!! ;D He doesn't mind people dressed up in red, just red objects. Hmm, I should really post a video soon. It's just that when I try to record him, he loves playing with the video camera.

I'll look forward to the video too, my blue bonnet "Frodo" (who is no longer with us) used to really hate Santa. We have a little Santa that we use for decoration at Christmas time and he used to attack Santa everytime he got close.

That is awesome. Bicki is one smart cookie However did you teach Bicki to do that. I love how he corrected himself. That is a sure sign of intelligence. Thank you so much for sharing, I can't wait to show my family the video. I went out and checked on my peachies this morning and one of the babies has fallen out of the nest (because the parents have packed it too high) I now have it inside with me. Poor little thing must have been out all night, trembling with fear, we scooped him up, warmed him up and fed him, now I just have to keep my fingers crossed that he survives it all.

Lol thank you for calling Bicki a smart cookie!! Awww... poor baby... I really hope it survives. Glad you found it before it was too late, I'm sure he will have a chance! All went to plan, I dug a bit of a well in the nest (because it is just jam packed with leaves and small twigs),I gave the little fighter a big feed and warmed him up a little and put him back in the nest. Mum and Dad are feeding him again, I checked this morning and he was still in the nest and his crop was full. What a relief.
