I have just bought a pair of Alexs for $360 a young pair. I got them from seperate breeders for $180 each. have a look at www.petlink.com.au for prices on mutation ringnecks as there are so many. Shaun

The male is parent reared and the female was handreared but was in an aviary. She is quiet but not tame. It was a good price, although at the moment on petlink, there are a couple for $100 each. Too cheap I would say Shaun

I have mine in an aviary 3.6m long x 900mm wide x 2.1m high. I am thinking of moving them to a 1.2m wide aviary though so they can pass each other in flight a bit easier. For perches I use Hardwood branches around 40mm thick. They are sitting in perch holders to make them easy to change when need be. Out of all my birds though, my moustache parrots are the only ones who have had perches replaced.

Oh very nice you think an aviary 2.0m long x 1.0m wide x 2.0m high be big enough to house one breeding pair of alexandrines?

With Alex's the bigger the better and I would regard 3.6 by 1.2 metres as a minimum. 4.5 is better and even bigger is best. Bigger aviaries mean fitter birds, and fitter (and healthier) birds will usually be better at breeding. Anything less than 3.6 metres is only a wing flap for an Alex.
If you are limited to 2 metres I suggest Ringnecks, Slatyheads or Plumheads in Asiatics.
cheers,
Mike

Ah ok then ill have to see about that because i dont have much room to put them. We have piegons but i dont know if the alex's will breed if the cage is close to the piegons because we let them out to fly and theyll be sitting on the alexandrine aviary.

actually i can have it a bit more bigger aviary. I can have 2.8m long x 1.2m wide x 2m high i recon that should be enough for them.

I have mine in an aviary of 2.5 x 2.5 x 2.5 and that is heaps of room for them to "flap" around in. My ekkies are in the same size aviary and Gunny the male actually does "laps" of the aviary........so they do get plenty of exercise.

I am sure that you will give the birds the best you can. Try to keep them stimulated with branches etc
