Woops, I didn't realised there was an introduction place. My master is Elmo. He (that is yet to be confirmed or denied) is a peach face lovebird. He is insane as the stereotypical lovebird.. but isn't hand friendly. But his slave loves him regardless. I became his slave mid way through this year, he is my first ever master. He captured me when he was about 2/3 months old but was very skittish and doesn't enjoy human hands, but loves human shoulders.. well only as a passage way to attack human neck which seems to be his favourite toy of all. He is one of those lovies who's life mission is to break everything he gets his beak on. His favourite toys are those kitten balls with a bell inside. He just enjoys breaking all the plastic until he gets to the middle and then moves on to the next one. I dont get it either.. but I let him do as he pleases. This is elmo, but we were playing around on photobook on my mac.

Isn't Elmo a handsome fellow! I don't give my mum's peachface those balls anymore - he mates with them and isn't a good look when visitors come round! My budgie however loves them and she loves being praised when she throws them.

LOL.. oh I have just learnt tonight that elmo has decided that she wouldn't mind me mating with her.. spreading her wings when I go near her.. I was allowed to pat her back and got super excited and posted on this lovebird forum.. and I got told.. that well.. all pats should be above the shoulders from now on. Do your budgies destroy them. Elmo picks the piece off it. I luckily *touch wood* haven't had to deal with my bird having "fun times." I can def wait for the day

The budgies don't damage them except to poop on them, they get a good soaking come cage cleaning time. I've learnt not to give those balls to anything bigger than a red rump. I lost a mallee ringneck hen early last year to one of those balls. She'd chewed both ends then stuck her head in it and it hurt her and by the time I caught her I couldn't save her.

Elmo has done that chewed both ends and got his head stuck. Though she wasn't hurt when he got his head stuck in it, he just got his head stuck. i guess cause his head is smaller. I am so sorry about your ringneck. luckily I am at home ALL the time and I NEVER let her have the balls when I am out and only has supervised time with it.

Elmo is so cute! How did you find out she was a girl? My lovebird Bicki has one of those balls but that ball is his mate and he often feeds it and mates it... How on earth was your lovebird capable of breaking those types of balls? My lovebird's bites HURT but they have never made me bleed. Can you hold Elmo on your finger?

I am on another lovebird forum, lovebird plus, and Linda the site owner who really knows her lovies expects elmo to be a girl because she opens her wings to me.. as to say.. "hey you. lets mate " and this only happens in females Any fingers that go near elmo get chopped off, she has a giant fear of fingers... and toes as well. hates fingers and toes and will attack them at any chance she gets. This has curbed alot in the past few months, but when she was about 6 months, my gosh, fingers were satan to her! she has made me bleed so many times.. one of the lovely traits of a female lovebird She's bitten me under my eye, nearly pierced my nose, the amount of times she has bitten my lips. But now she has calmed down and no longer bites my face, just fingers and toes. Elmo has a incredibly strong beak. it can break through nearly everything. it's her favourite thing to do is to destroy all the toys mummy gives her. whether it be paper, to plastic. she just enjoys breaking it and chewing it, but not swallowing it. She destroys it and moves on to a new thing. it can keep her occupied for hours and hours. maybe she has strong beak muscles hahahaha. ps. oh clara, i only have one lovebird, the photo is manipulated to mirror image one side of it. hehe. its a function on my mac photobooth

Sam was handraised half by me the rest by his breeder. He loves it when we stick our fingers through the bars of his cage, he puts his head on the side and wants head scratches. If he doesn't want any more scratches but doesn't want us to go, he stands on our fingers! He's such a funny bird! 1 thing I didn't mention when I said I don't give him the balls to play with anymore coz he mates with them? Well what I didn't mention was a couple times a day he licks the balls all over! gross!

Welcome to this forum,Momo and Elmo. I have a lovie called Precious. He sometimes like his head rubbed . He now plays with toilet roll,by crawling inside and going from one end to the other.Loves sitting on my finger and shoulder.Plan soon to buy a screen door for my unit,so Precious can fly around inside. Would not say Precious is Fearless . He is a sook. But sometimes instinct takes over and Precious attacks as when I am eating and he wants to join in,or when I am using my biro. I am in the process of saying No to him, when he does that .Starting to work. By the way Elmo is cute and very pretty. Like how Momo goes with Elmo. from Robert and Precious

Lol!!! Well... it gives them something to do.... >.>
I learnt a trick to stop your bird from biting your fingers as much as they used to. If being rewarded when not biting doesn't work, then maybe you could punish them for biting.
It's nothing brutal. If your bird is on your finger, and bites it, then you do an "earthquake" where you shake your hand. Birds hate being off balance. So it will learn that if it bites, an earthquake will occur!!!
But that's if your bird can sit on your finger on the first place?

I tried that when elmo was on my shoulder.. it just make her wanna nip me more. I'm not sure if she's just a really HORRIBLE preener.. or she just enjoys the taste of my blood. Elmo has never sat on my fingers.. will go all the way up to my wrists and will stop. She would prefer to fall than stand on the back of my hand. Its hilarious...
Robert, elmo hasn't taken a fascination to toilet rolls, but I got one of those hamster hidey places.. absolutely loves that! Lovies are very... pushy.. for lack of a better word.. but still adorable.. but really pushy.. I see them as only children.. or the playground bully!
