Ok so I know what I want for my Green Cheeks but I can't find it or if I do it is sooo expensive that I just can't look at it.
So I have been thinking about building one. Now the structure I should be find with, just need to remember to measure twice cut once but how to I attach the colour bond to the frame? How do I attach the wire to the frame?
I keep hearing about all these people who build their own avairys so I want to give it a try (keep me busy and stop me buying more birds!)
So are the directions that anyone knows of and hints that people can give me?

Ok so instead of building one from sratch I bought this off ebay I HATE dome topped cages but at 6ft tall my theory is that I can tip it on the side and build a frame for the legs, make sure the base is fixed on fully and bam I have a suspended avairy (ok it works in my head) Now the guy listed it as being in Melbourne, he then tells me that I can come any time over this weekend to pick it up. So I organise my dad and his trailer for sunday. Call to confirm, oh they are in Wallan... SO NOT Melbourne! And I can't do the pick up on Sunday. So now on Saturday i have to take a train home to Kyneton (where my parents live) drive across to Wallan and then back to Melbourne. Thought this was a better idea then my parents driving to melbourne me driving to wallan back to melbourne and then them driving home. So not happy about the fact that he is in Wallan as I may not have bid on the item (there is another one like it on e-bay at the moment) had I know that I was going to have to drive to Wallan. Oh well, will post pictures after I alter it. Hopefully it works out the way that I want it and the Green Cheeks can move in. I also might add extra cover on one of the sides and the roof so they have a little more shelter.

Ok so it is done. here are the pictures. I am not going to win any prizes but it will work, maybe later down the track i will paint the wood and make it a bit easier to use but untill the next breeding season it will work for them and i can work out what I can do over the next few months. i did not manage to get the other one on ebay so going to have to work out something else for the other pair.

wow that was quick!! You sure dont muck around! It will do the job nicely. they look very happy in there. suspendeds are so easy to keep clean., If I build more aviaries, they will be suspended.

Yeah after looking around they seem to be the best way to go. As I change over from Budgie breeding to Green Cheek and Quaker I think I might try and save up and get a pro in to build me a nice "pretty" set up. I attempted to buy another one off ebay and got outbid but let the lady know that I will take it if the first bidder is a no show. As for speed, this is what happens when you tell your 82 year old father that I am moving into these birds and if he lets me then i will have 6 - 8 birds not 50 Budgies!

82! He is going well! I am sure if he was anything like my dad, he would like to see the number of birds kept to a minimum.

Nope can't seem to shift them! But there is a lady who asked me if I wanted to swap them for a pair of pricess parrots and she said that she is going to try and find me a cock bird and a red rump cock and see if we can work out a deal

Don't you hate that I bought a train set (fully set up) from ebay and it said within 25km and said Brisbane. When I won I found out it was on an ISLAND so I had to catch a car ferry to pick it up. Fair dinkum you think that an island might be a detail you should warn potential buyers about. Great handywork too by the way.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that this sort of thing happens to.

I always ask the seller what suburb pick up is from before I bid, as I live in the country. I don't mind travelling to Melbourne as my daughter lives in Fawkner and she usually drives me to the places so I'm lucky in that respect.

Oh it is always sad seeing this thread as snugglepot and cuddlepie died in the heat wave They where my first green cheeks and almost hand tamed and would talk to me when I went to feed them
