Hey Guys,
Just thought id put up a couple of pics of my lovies cage and some of the stuff i feed them, hopefully it might help new (and old) lovie owners decide how to set up their cages and give some ideas on what to feed
The Cage: (birds arent in it as i was cleaning !! it looks really bare in the photos too!)
Theyre favourite toy! Great for foraging too!
They have lots of stuff in their cage, it gets rotated around with more stuff so they dont get bored of the toys in there. I also have to replace alot of the toys because they chew them to bits in a very short amount of time! The toys in the cage now are moslty things i can use for foraging. Here is a list of some of the toys and perches i use:
-Cholla wood perches
-A coconut hollowed out with a hole in it, it has palm leaves as a "roof" attached also
- A birdie kong, like a dog kong but smaller
- Various rope toys and perches including a boing
- Various wooden toys (for chewing) and perches
- A few calcium perches
- A couple of mineral stone perches
- One clay perch (they eat the perch and it has lots of natural minerals in it)
- Lots of ladders
- birdie huts
I use a lucerene (pelleted) litter in the very bottom tray of the cage, its organic. They cant eat it (cant reach!) but even if they did i dont think it would be harmful. I put paper in the cage for shredding often also.
The food i feed is pretty basic, stuff that is inexpensive (generally) and is easy to find at the supermarket or at pet shops.
Vege Mix (contains carrot, corn, peas, capsicum, broccoli, cauliflower, chickpeas, mung beans, 4 bean mix)
Soak/ Sprout Mix (contains peas, lentils, wheat, mung beans, lupins, sunnies, red panicum, safflower seed)
Unsoaked:
Soaked/Sprouted:
Cooked Mix (contains beak appetit, various dried fruits, various seeds and nuts)
Uncooked:
General Feed Mix (contains passwell crumbles, roudybush crumbles, millet, hulled sunflower, red panicum, wheat {may have some oats and canola in small quantities})
Roudybush Pellets (crumbles and mini sizes mixed)
I raise all baby birds on roudybush handrearing mix. I add a vitamin supplement to the water of the birds too, generally a basic mineral supplement and a calcium supplement.
I have missed out the fruit unfortunatley but will add it when i make up a fresh mix, i dont freeze the fruit and it was vegie day today so i didnt make any I hope youve enjoyed the pictures and if youd like to add anything feel free to! It would be great to see pictures of what other lovie owners cages look like and what they feed.
