hey guys, My name is sophie and i own a 6 month old Rainbow Lorikeet (Jade). Firstly, i have been trying to train Jade but im finding it difficult to find a suitable treat that i can reward her with. her favourite food is definately celery but she gets very defensive of it once it is given to her so i have trouble taking it away to continue training. i have two other love birds and i train them with sunflower seeds as treats which works well but it isnt as easy to find something like that for a non seed eater. Also she hasn't picked up any words as yet and i was wondering if or when she might start to talk? thanx guys Sophie xx

try chopping the celery into really small peices, and when she does something good reward her with a small bit, that way it will take no time at all to eat it and you wont have to take it off her. Then you can move onto the next treat

Megan said exactly what I was about to say..... ;D
As for talking all birds talk in their own time and some never really talk properly at all. 6 months is still very young and you probably can hear her doing her "baby babble" which more than likely if you listen carefully you might hear some "human words or intonations of words"
I have 2 baby male eclectus (well 3 but one is only 8 and half weeks old) and they are 6 months and 4 months. Both are talking and both say single words and small phrases...but the 4 month old at the moment is actually talking a bit better than the 6 month old.

Have you tried grass? It works excellent for me lorikeets love it. All you do it pick small peices of grass and give it to him/her as a reward its free as well.

Talking , thats easy , my handreared and parentreared all talk , have a conversation , ask for the foods they want -talk me to death . Ant larvae, the birds go berserk for them. Not too many though.

My Rainbow Lorrie loves sultanas! I use these as treats for him and he really loves them but when you take them away from him for being naughty he wakes up to it very quickly and next time eats them first then he is naughty!
