Hello all. I was looking for an email list I was on long ago about Aus birdkeeping run by a lady called Megs but it seems to have vanished so I've ended up here. I'm 47, live in Melbourne and have a yellow IRN called Floyd and a blue female budgie called Bruce. I've had Floyd for about 10 years and he came to me from people who had hit him because he bit them. He was originally hand reared but will now bite you if you try to touch him. Anyway he hurt his foot and the vet talked to me about getting him out of the cage and socializing with the family etc. as he would be a much happier parrot which I'm sure is true. So his wings are getting clipped and I suppose I'm going to end up quite scarred.

Hello I am guessing your Indian Ring neck has been in an aviary for the 10 years you have had him??? Well you have your work cut out for you.....but it is not impossible.
I must say the lutino IRN's are lovely looking birds. I met one the other day and he is fully grown and he is very pretty.
Welcome here ;D

Ringnecks can be bitey thou l think they are " cranky " more than bitey Try offering treats outside the cage door and l know its hard but when they bite drop your hand like your about to do something else and ignore them but don't go away and instead talk to them for a minute. Good luck

Hello I am guessing your Indian Ring neck has been in an aviary for the 10 years you have had him??? Yep I realised that when I was talking to the vet and felt very guilty. I'm determined to get him back to some level of handlabilty to improve his quality of life. He is involved with the family as he is right next to the kitchen and can look out at the back yard and he gets talked to a hand fed different stuff every day. After his medicine yesterday I fed him most of two grapes by hand with my hands in the cage with no bother so he's not scared of me and I think having to hold him for meds is doing him good. He runs away in the cage but is not screeching or squawking when caught, just trying to bite anything within reach.
