Day started 5am - (YUK, I am so not a morning person), we were on the road by 6am and got to Gunnedah around 9am and headed straight for the pie shop. (YUMMY, I do like the breakfast part of the day). Then we went to the sale. ;D
I am not a big fan of pushy, shovey, rude and arrogant people, so I stood back for the most of it. Mick walked through ahead of me and I tried to keep up. Every so often I caught his eyes looking back at me, saying, hurry up - there is a bird up here that I want you to look at. I would catch up and then lose him again.
We bought,
1 pair of yellow backed gouldians 1 pair of Strawberry Finches (Finally Mrs Macka - I got them) 1 normal gouldian (male) and one pair of pied Elegants.
The crowd was incredible, so I opted out of there and made contact with Shaun. I got to meet him, his lovely wife, and absolutely gorgeous little man - Cooper. It was the highlight of my trip meeting these three lovely people. It is always a pleasure to put faces to names. I think Cooper is never going to be short of a girlfriend when he grows up - he is a handsome little man!

oh Elegants yay! We can exchange bloodlines when they breed! I've got cinnamons and normals & a split pied male. How well marked are they? Got some pics of all your buys? Sounds like the people there were like at the PSOA show. I hated it!

Sounds like the people there were like at the PSOA show. I hated it! The elegants are prettier now than when I first looked at them. Now they are in the aviary they look much better. If I get home from work early enough today I will try and take some piccies of them. Haven't taken any pics of the new finches yet, they are still in the bird room, and according to Mick that is where they will be until summer hits again. I will try and get some pics in there, but they are never as good as what you get in the aviaries. Exchanging the bloodlines is good, I will let you know if and when they breed. I know it won't be this year, it is starting to get too cold (at night) here now.

hehehehe the crowd at gunnedah is something you have to see and experience for yourself i believe ... last year ... i was in and out of there in like 20 minutes ... i just did all the outside birds ... it was so busy .. and well i was only there to look as i'm normally stuck in the trade hall and isnt it typical the year i dont go .. all you forum people go GRRRRR ... what was the trade hall like this year??? did anyone say gday to Shane from PSOA??? or Ben from Vetafarm Really nice guys ... and there are a couple of other nice people there .. but i'm bad for remembering names of people i dont have regular contact with ... I also find going to gunnedah or any bird sale ... its not a place to stop and think .. "ohh i'll just keep looking" cause if you can even get back to a bird you first seen .. it will most likly be gone ... Cant wait to hear more about the day .. i'm sooo jealous i missed out this year *Lisa* PS: forgot to say congrats on your buy meandem .. were they reasonably priced???

The trade hall was brilliant. All the trades people in there were very helpful and informative. We spent quite a bit of time in there. I spoke with someone from Vetafarm for quite a while, not quite sure who it was, but he made me feel like I was the only person in the room. And believe me, I wasn't. Prices were up and down at the sale. I saw a lot of differences in prices, so it really paid to shop around if you were chasing something in particular. All the exotics have come down a lot in price, and the natives have seemed to have gained in price - not a lot, but a noticable increase. I think there are so many mutations now, it is hard to get a standard bird. In years to come, they will be worth more than the mutations. I haven't been to the Gunnedah sale for a few years, so it was a real eye opener. I am still shaking my head though - the rudeness of people was just amazing. I would hate to be on an island fighting for my life with them. They would have eaten me up in the first day!

hehehehe .... If the person at veta farm was a young guy say 20ish .. that would be Ben ... really nice guy ... but the older guy Tony who owns it .. he is quiet nice as well just a bit more shy I love the trade hall .. i've made lots of friends in there over the years i've been going ... As for birds and mutations you are probably on a winner there Meandem .... it would be smart to hang onto the orginal breed and well people and rudeness i guess they all just think one for all ... all for one

To say it was the highlight of your trip, really touches us. It was really great to meet you, and I am sure it wont be the last. Cooper is really a great kid, and I am really proud of him. The guy at Vetafarm was Ben. I didnt get to meet him, but I did spend a bit of time with Shane. He was a top bloke. I didnt buy any birds, but did spend some money in the trade hall. I bought 3 cages and a book on sprouting seeds from the ABK table (I think it was Sheryll there, was great also. She loved Cooper and gave him a bookmark) Lisa, there was only one table with a limited amount of toys. Do you normally do well there? I think we should do a thread where everybody posts photos of themselves so we can all put faces to names. It would be great to know who we are talking to. Shaun

Shane is a great guy ... always happy to chat parrots The toy place would have most probably been aussie bird toys i think they are called ... from up qld somewhere ... I do ok there ... probably my second biggest sale ... over orange .... tho it doesnt cover the costs of the weekend as we go up the day before and stay the night etc ... but i go for the fun of it and the friends i've made .. and the $400 or $500 i take over my table is an extra I'm still dripping with jealousy not being there this year

I think we should do a thread where everybody posts photos of themselves so we can all put faces to names. It would be great to know who we are talking to. Shaun well I look like Pamela Anderson ....... minus a few "things" lol and black hair, and brown skin and brown eyes and a fair dinkum aussie accent. ;D Geez, I like to say we are twins, but I certainly don't have any of those attributes. And Shaun can vouch for that now! ;D I think Shaun has got a good point though, it would be good for everyone to post a pic of themselves, and then we would all know who we are talking too. Who knows, maybe at sometime we have crossed each others paths and not known it! It's funny because Shaun and I had made arrangements to meet after the sale and catch up - as we did - but before we had even met, I was admiring this dear little man in a stroller, he was so gorgeous, full of smiles and personality and then when I finally got to catch up with them, who should it be that I have been admiring - Yes, it was Cooper! So I reckon it would be a good idea Shaun! Also here is a pic of my new little Elegants. I am so happy with them, and they are very happy in their new home. The male Elegant is hanging around with the male Turq, it is like he is showing him around the joint, they are funny to watch. The male Turq will fly to the ground followed closely by the male Elegant and then the little girl Elegant flies down after them.

Very nice! I love the little sounds that Elegants make. Took me awhile to figure out it was them and not the Bourke's. Trick now is figuring out what they mean. Usually though it's dad going crook at one of the kids but sometimes it's mum bossing dad around and asking for food. My little guys are so inquisitive too, they all must know what I'm doing.

Today they are right at home, we sat infront of the aviary (as we do every morning) to have our morning cuppa, and who should be the first to see what we are doing - yep, you guessed it, the Elegants. Of course, I went and got them a little treat for being so cute - I had to!
